Unisys and Dexterra team to provide mobile access to UK police investigation management system

Unisys selects Dexterra platform to meet police service’s demand for greater mobility

London: United Kingdom, 13th May 2009 – The UK subsidiary of Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS), the global IT services and technology company, today announced it has partnered with Dexterra, Inc., to provide mobile access to the UK police service’s investigation management system HOLMES2, used by all UK police forces to investigate serious crimes.

Once complete, more than 5,000 police investigators, support staff and management across 59 police forces could benefit from 24/7 mobile access to HOLMES2.  In addition, by incorporating Dexterra’s technology into its expansive product portfolio, Unisys will now be able to provide enterprise and public sector mobility solutions to support a wide variety of business processes within organisations of all sizes.

As the industry standard management tool for investigating major crimes, HOLMES2 is used daily by police officers throughout the UK, and provides the core element in major incident and disaster management.  Offering administrative support, incident and exhibit logging and a comprehensive information repository, HOLMES2 enables police forces to improve effectiveness and productivity in criminal investigations, helping to resolve incidents more quickly and improve conviction rates.

Based on demand for greater mobility by law enforcement agencies and their personnel, Unisys worked closely with the UK police service to design additional products which enhance and extend the core functions of HOLMES2, allowing multiple discreet applications to be utilised by field personnel and deployed on mobile devices such as Windows Mobile Pocket PCs and RIM BlackBerrys.

The mobilisation project comprises of 11 applications built on the Dexterra Concert mobility platform – addressing areas such as managing case actions, storing information about exhibits, and searching and cross-referencing information from multiple cases – which will be made available to the police service through 2010.  Individual forces will then be able to choose the combination of applications that best suits their mobility needs.

Forbes Gallagher, Client Home Office Account Manager at Unisys, said: “To date, UK police service mobility projects have typically involved small customized applications for one-off local deployments, making the addition of mobile capabilities to HOLMES2 incredibly significant. The Dexterra partnership enables us to deliver solutions capable of supporting thousands of users across the country.  Furthermore, our capabilities are not limited to HOLMES2 and we can now offer mobility solutions to enterprises and government organisations worldwide, enabling us to reach new markets and expand our business.”

Unisys partnered with Dexterra based on its technological leadership in enterprise mobility and track record of successful large-scale mobility projects designed to help organisations transform the efficiency of their field workforces.

Michael Liebow, CEO at Dexterra, said: “Since its first involvement in HOLMES2, Unisys has continually looked to innovate and add value to the UK police service.  Using the Dexterra platform, it can now deliver a mobility solution that can help forces become more versatile, improve incident response times and ultimately contribute to overall crime reduction.”
