Unisys and The Brussels Airport Company Renew Five-Year Infrastructure Outsourcing ContractUnisys to upgrade and manage Common Use PlatformBRUSSELS, Belgium, November 21, 2006 – Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced that its Belgian subsidiary has expanded its relationship with The Brussels Airport Company through a new five-year IT outsourcing contract. Unisys Belgium will replace and manage the common infrastructure used by more than 80 airlines to issue tickets, route baggage and generate boarding passes. As a result of this contract, more than 16 million passengers who are served at Brussels Airport annually will continue to benefit from faster check-in lines, customer service and baggage handling.
Unisys Belgium will upgrade Brussels Airport’s Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE), the technology infrastructure that provides a single interface into passenger and baggage information throughout the airport. Through CUTE, airline passenger service representatives have the ability to check and secure baggage, issue claim checks and handle seat assignments for multiple airlines. The common infrastructure also enhances secure business operations by providing centralized access to baggage-handling information.
"Over the last five years overall airport efficiency has drastically improved with the ability to have more information about the passengers travelling through the airport,” says Arnaud Feist, chief financial officer and Director ICT at The Brussels Airport Company. "Unisys has a good understanding of the transportation industry and their approach has created greater efficiency and flexibility for all the airlines coming into Brussels Airport. It is with great confidence that we continue our collaboration for another five years."
Unisys will extend the current infrastructure to include the necessary secure solutions for improved passenger satisfaction. An important element is the growth in self-service check-in machines that will be integrated into the CUTE infrastructure and used by different airlines. This will further reduce the time required for passenger check-in and will enhance customer satisfaction.
"Brussels Airport today has one of the most customer-friendly technology platforms, allowing a smoother and faster check-in process," says Jean-Claude Siva at Unisys Belgium. "With Unisys and RESA systems integration and technology support, airlines will also enjoy more efficient and secure business operations with significant cost-savings because systems can be accessed from any PC and check-in desk in the airport."
