Most people would be surprised just how much impact Unisys has on their daily lives. Consider a typical day…
As you sit down for breakfast and leaf through your newspaper, whether you are a Sun-reader or more a Times type, Unisys has had a hand in keeping you up to date – we provide the systems that allow journalists to file up to date copy.
When the post arrives, the chances are that any cheques you receive or bills you have to pay will involve us – after all, Unisys processes over three quarters of all the cheques written in this country.
That special package that came via Exel Logistics this morning was delivered thanks to Unisys systems integration and technology too, whilst back at the Post Office, our services are keeping things running smoothly for your postman’s colleagues at the counter.
On your way to work, you stop to make a couple of urgent calls. Thanks to Unisys servers and integration skills, your Vodafone signal should be more reliable than ever before (if you are an Orange customer, your voicemail is run by us too),
As you step onto the train (Network Rail’s computer systems are maintained by Unisys and always run on time), its time to finish the paper before you arrive at work. How we affect you at work depends on what you do for a living, but let’s assume that you have time to pop out at lunchtime for a spot of shopping. You head for Gap to top-up on Chinos and Tee-shirts. Their cash till connects back to head office systems maintained by us, before handling your American Express card (another Unisys customer).
When you get home after a long day, your first job is to check your phone messages. BT 1571 and Callminder services are both delivered by Unisys, using Unisys technology. A good friend is suggesting a night out in London. You could book a ticket on line for the latest show at Royal Albert Hall (their new internet ticket booking system is protected by a Unisys designed firewall, so it is quite safe to provide you credit card details), or you could call one of the new 118 directory services numbers (all of which are driven by the BT OSIS database – integrated using systems pulled together by us of course), to get a number for the latest trendy restaurant. In the end though, you settle for a quiet night in, safe in the knowledge that the police are protecting you and yours, thanks in part to the HOLMES II system that connects all the regional police forces together to help fight crime however far the perpetrator roams. Another Unisys first.
Of course if things had gone terribly wrong today and you’d had to call 999 in the greater London area, guess who would be making sure that the police operators were operating with the right information, night or day? |
